The good news for all customers preparing to use SSL, we can now apply for certificates for up to 4 years.
Previously, with the aim of increasing the reliability and safety, organizations issuing SSL certificates agreed to reduce the time to only allow registration for a maximum of 2 years. However, the time is short, so the frequency of SSL extension increases, along with the risk of making the website downtime longer…, in general the benefits are nowhere to be seen.
Therefore, since October this year, the time for SSL registration has been increased to a maximum of 4 years, which is double the previous period. Some special certificates can only be registered for a maximum of 3 years.
The new process will be a bit different from before, it only takes one issue to complete it all. When registering for a 4-year example, the certificate will only be registered for a maximum of 2 years, close to expiry the supplier will contact you to activate further use.
Depending on each party will have different instructions, I take the example of SSLs.com:
“Thirty days before the usual two-year limit is up, we’ll send you an email reminder to Reactivate. This will add on the next two years which you already paid for, there’s no extra charge. Even if you ignore our Reactivate email reminders (we won’t hold it against you), there’s nothing to worry about because you don’t lose out. Reactivate any time within the lifespan you originally purchased. In some cases, like the PositiveSSL Certificate, we’ll give you a heads up to Reactivate after one year to benefit from the lowest prices on offer.”
And of Go Get SSL:
“For example, when ordering a 4-year Subscription SSL you will only need to replace your CSR for the Subscription renewal once. You can reissue your certificate at any time and as many times as you like. No more lost days or weeks on single year certificates trying to time a new purchase and re-submission.”
Currently, some of the SSL certificates from Sectigo and GoGetSSL EV have been updated time, others gradually from now until the end of 2019. Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL, Thawte, and Digicert will start in Q1 2020.
You can sign up at SSLs.com and GoGetSSL for a period of 4 years already. On this occasion, SSLs.com also offered deep discounts for PositiveSSL only $3.77/year when registering for 4 years only, the price is too cheap.
Please take advantage of the opportunity to sign up!
