On the occasion of the world of technology is boiling about the beautiful new DNS pair of CloudFlare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, I have prepared the article comparing the speed of DNS resolution of providers for your reference.
The DNS service is responsible for converting a web address (for example, coupontree.co) into an IP address so the router can understand and continue to access the Internet. Every Internet Service Provider (ISP) will have their own DNS system, but they are mostly slow and not secure, which is why DNS services were born.

DNS service providers
In this comparison, we will select the top 8 free DNS providers, including:
- Google 8.8.8.8: Private and no filter. The most popular option.
- CloudFlare 1.1.1.1: Private and no filter. New appearance.
- Quad9 9.9.9.9: Private and protected filter, block access to malicious domains.
- OpenDNS 208.67.222.222: Block domains for malicious and adult content.
- Norton DNS 199.85.126.20: Block malicious domains and integrate with their Antivirus program.
- CleanBrowsing 185.228.168.168: Private and protected filtering, adult content block.
- Yandex DNS 77.88.8.7: Block domain malicious. Very popular in Russia.
- Comodo DNS 8.26.56.26: Block domain malicious.

Locations
There are 18 locations around the world participating in this test, mostly using VPS and trying to query DNS from as many locations as possible. This will tell us how well the DNS system is connected, and whether they have multiple datacenters spread across the world. Location list:
- North America: San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Montreal, Atlanta, Dallas, Fremont, San Francisco
- Europe: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt
- Asia: Tokyo, Singapore, Bangalore (India), Sydney, Brisbane (Australia)
- South America: Sao Paulo

Result
We made 70 DNS lookup queries over an hour with popular domains such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, etc. Then based on the average results of each location to measure the DNS resolution rate.
Summary
All vendors (except Yandex) performed well in North America and Europe with an average response time of <15ms. In fact, you can choose any vendor because we can not feel the difference between a few ms. In Asia and South America, the results are different as some DNS providers are not well connected here.
- CloudFlare has the fastest DNS service in 72% location with excellent average speed, 4.98ms around the world.
- Google and Quad9 ranked second and third respectively. Google Quad9 is faster in North America and Europe but lower in Asia and South America.
- CloudFlare appears strong everywhere. While Google and Quad9 have several locations for high response rates, CloudFlare still runs great.
- Yandex is only usable in Russia, other places are very slow.
- CleanBrowsing is the fastest porn filter provider.
This result is only relative because it is difficult to compare 1 vs 1 between providers because they have special features that can make the speed a bit slower (ie block malicious domains).
CloudFlare’s average speed over Google is 11.46 ms, this number is often difficult to realize that you do not deify the DNS, using CloudFlare can not make your Internet connection faster.
